California Code of Regulations, Title V, Section 58621 requires that Butte College establish, publish, and apply a policy providing that a student who is otherwise eligible for a California College Promise Grant become ineligible if the student is placed on academic or progress probation, or any combination thereof for two consecutive primary terms (Fall and Spring). Terms shall be considered consecutive on the basis of the student’s enrollment so long as the break in the student’s enrollment does not exceed one primary term. Loss of eligibility shall become effective at the first registration opportunity after such determination is made.
Students placed on academic or progress probation shall be notified, via Butte College student email, of their status no later than thirty days following the end of the term that resulted in the student being placed on academic or progress probation.
The following Academic Standards are applied to the California College Promise Grant ONLY.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
- Minimum cumulative progress rate of 50%
Students will lose their California College Promise Grant eligibility if their GPA and/or progress rate falls below the minimum for two consecutive semesters.
Reinstatement of the California College Promise Grant
It is possible for students to have their California College Promise Grant eligibility reinstated in the future. Reinstatement of eligibility requires:
- Achieving the cumulative Academic Standards
- Demonstrating significant academic improvement (significant academic improvement is defined as achieving no less than the minimum grade point average of 2.0 and progress standards of 50% in the term in which eligibility is determined). Reinstatement will be automatic and does not require the student to appeal for reinstatement.
- Successfully appealing the reinstatement of California College Promise Grant eligibility due to documented extenuating circumstances. Reinstatement will not be automatic and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Please note: A student who successfully appeals the loss of enrollment priority for the same term in which the student has been determined to lose the California College Promise Grant shall also have their eligibility restored for the same term. Students who have a verified Foster Youth determination and students receiving special category fee waivers are not subject to the loss of the California College Promise Grant.
Conditions for Filing an Appeal:
COMING SOON: (PrintablePDF)
A student who has lost eligibility due to failure to make academic standards may file an appeal, known as a California College Promise Grant APPEAL. An appeal will be reviewed only for documented “extenuating circumstances.” Appeals not meeting the definition of “extenuating circumstances” will not be accepted. Submission of an appeal does NOT GUARANTEE the reinstatement of students’ California College Promise Grant . Therefore, students should be prepared to pay for their enrollment fees pending the outcome of their appeal. If an appeal is approved, the student will receive the California College Promise Grant for the semester at the earliest rebill cycle following approval.
